things that grow: troisième partie

Hmm. Guess I'm writing about food again.

I am glad I didn't read Bringing Up Bebe while Munch was restricting her voluntary caloric consumption to white food- rice, pasta, bread, yogurt, cauliflower (!?!) (the rather painful exception was cheese, which had to be yellow).  I would have thought, even more than I already did at the time, that my child was headed down the slippery slope towards Kraft products, type II diabetes, binge drinking, poor grammar, crass consumerism, and all other negative associations made of America's youth. As I wrote last week we. are. fine.

Powered by LD's garden. And, when the neighbors aren't looking, the occasional box o' mac n cheese.
So I am going to remember not to freak out now that Wow is starting solids.

 all done? oh nooooo....
No, I am not going to freak out. Nor am I going to declare victory when my not-quite-six-month-old happily eats bok choy (ALTHOUGH HE TOTALLY DID CUZ I AM THE BEST MAMA EVER) because, really, he's just excited that there's a whole new class of discoverables that he can put into his mouth without mama and daddy flipping their business.

Other things-that-grow updates include (and please ladies, forgive me for characterizing you as such, but I am working with a theme) Mrs T (38 weeks along with blue baby T) and Mrs S (19 weeks along with pink baby S), both of whom came over for dinner Sunday after the husbands battled out an afternoon game of squash. I have three other good friends who are also pregnant - Mrs. AB, Mrs. W,  Mrs. H/K and I am super excited that Wow will have so many potential playmates amongst our group of friends. His sister, after all, has had to entertain herself at many an otherwise adult party due to the slim age-appropriate pickings amongst our pre-Munch pals.

Eagerly waiting for some buddies to arrive on the scene. Or just a ridiculously cute pic I couldn't resist posting.
Last, but not least, the things-that-grow Garden Update. I plucked these sweet little guys off the vine on my way in from a morning run. They are the first offerings from the twenty-two tomato plants that LD put in this year.
Peppers are coming up next - anaheim, jalapeños, and padrons. There's about 2-3 total quarts of apricot, apricot-fig, fig-orange, and apricot-plum (a sad fail) jam in the freezer and George keeps leaving more bags of fruit on the doorstep.

Unfortunately, not everything has fared so well.
For the record, LD blames the twins next door. Something about a soccer ball and a fledgling corn stalk.

    1. Good cuz LD has big plans for you when you visit. I think he's putting you in charge of trimming the hedge. Or maybe moving the wasps' next? I can't remember.

  4. My daughter makes THE SAME face every time we try a new solid on her. But then she eats it anyway, little piggy. :-)
